DJ Repair Course

After more than 12 months in development, AST Repair Perth is proud to announce its 2 day DJ Repair Course.

This 13 hour course presents a format of over 70% on the practical, hands on aspects, but even more importantly, a fault finding and critical thinking aspect, more often than not over looked in this age of "doctor google" and "youtube experts" telling you what to think, not how to think..and in several aspects, repeating incorrect advice, which through the power of repetition, one then "believes" to be "knowledge"..

Students will be taught 3 main aspects, "Mechanical", "Soldering" and "Diagnosis and "Critical Thinking", with the first two on both days, to ensure maximum practical training and refinement of these techniques whilst supervised. Students will be tested, unsupervised on the last day for hand tool usage, and soldering technique, for VOC status on their certificate of participation.

About the instructor

Jez's knowledge and experience spans over 14 years in the electronics industry, with over 8 years working on HiFi, DJ, PA and Pro Audio products.

His expertise has been honed and sharpened along the way from working with innovation award winning teams, and companies where ISO and international electronics industry standards documents are 1 inch thick, and employ 3 stage processes of QC.

Having worked in every aspect of the electronics industry, this wholistic approach is applied to internal procedures, and now the structure of this course

Product development/revision/R&D - including working in innovation award winning teams, and teams of design engineers to advise on mechanical design improvements for assembly and repair ease, and mechanical integrity once deployed.

Production and assembly - 1000's of hours soldering, including fine pitch ICs, rework, IC removal and replacement.

Installation and deployment - installation in domestic, commercial and civil structures..and how is that relevant, one may ask?  have a think about it - it will become apparent for those taking the course, as this area of knowledge covers often overlooked aspects for those in the DJ industry.

Service and repair - from benchtop and on site diagnosis and fault finding, testing, calibrating and component sourcing and replacements discontinued ones, this is a skill set and experience from working early on within small teams, with decades of experience AND the only professional way to develop as a technician - regular upskilling and keeping abreast of new technology, methods and standards.
